And from that moment on, we were hooked. He represented inspiration. In the end, we felt like we knew him. But just how epic? We asked Dan Canobbio of CompuBox to put in perspective what we were witnessing. Here are the defining and most ridiculous stats for every fight. Creed vs. Balboa Balboa began the film as a debt collector for a loan shark in Philadelphia. He ended it in the arms of his beloved Adrian Pennino after one of the most incredible fights in boxing history.
Entering as a heavy underdog to dominant champion Apollo Creed, Rocky — who was chosen as a late replacement for an injured former opponent — stepped in with few thinking he had a shot.
Early on, it appeared they were correct. Creed, according to CompuBox, outlanded Rocky 25 to 3 in the first round. But out of nowhere, Balboa landed a right uppercut that sent Creed to the canvas. Already a subscriber? The boxing got much better, and the two Creed movies released last decade featured outstanding action. I call them absolutely hilarious. In the first Creed vs. Balboa landed only three punches in the first round and only threw one overall in the first two minutes of the fight.
In the final round, Balboa hit Creed with 13 body shots, but somehow Creed survived to win. According to CompuBox, Creed outlanded Balboa in the first round, including 26 straight shots to open the fight. Before Balboa stopped Creed in the 15 th and final round, Creed struck Balboa with straight punches. Then, of course, Balboa courageously battled back and this happened. In the first fight, won by Lang by devastating knockout, there were 71 total punches thrown by both fighters in the two rounds.
None of them were jabs. Balboa hit Lang with 30 punches in the first round but only one in the second before he fell to the canvas for good.
The rematch, though, told a different tale as Balboa hilariously landed the first 32 punches of the fight and was successful with 49 jabs in the first round.
And in the final sequence, when Balboa knocked out Lang to win back his heavyweight title, Balboa threw 82 punches and landed a ludicrous 76 of them. In the final match worked by Canobbio, Balboa vs.
But after taking tons of punishment, Balboa finished the fight by landing 36 of 37 total punches in the 15 th round and shockingly knocking out the Russian giant.
After all, this amazing fake documentary on the global impact of Balboa-Drago has more than 1. This is a BETA experience. You may opt-out by clicking here. More From Forbes.
